UeaT’s ‘Mac N Cheese Smackdown’ Promotes Local Ingredients


UeaT’s Local Food Challenge: the Mac N Cheese Smackdown, a competition between 4 campus chefs to earn the most votes for their macaroni and cheese recipes (all of which featured local ingredients to raise awareness of the importance of local food among students).

“When you cook with food that comes from nearby, it is ultimately that much more satisfying and gratifying, like you are meant to be cooking that product at that time in the right season,” said Chef Steffan Howard of The Exchange Café.

The prize ultimately went to Chef Jaco’s team from Chestnut Residence earning him points and solidifying his lead in the Local Food Challenge (this lead was short-lived, however, as Chef Joe Soroka of New College Dining Hall quickly took over the top spot).
